Cookies are somewhat sacred in our family. For as long as I can remember, we have always had cookies or cookie dough around for a snack.  However, I must admit that we are a bit biased and unvaried in our desired cookie of choice. A good basic Chocolate Chip cookie is pretty much the only cookie that matters. That being said, I have recently been inspired by some random types of flours (Bob's Red Mill) that I came across in th...

Is anyone else hooked on "The Great British Bake Off"? It is such a pleasant and inspiring bit of friendly competition. Not only is it relaxing and, oh, so emotionally rewarding, but my vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds! I want to whack things into the oven now, and say totty bye to my dear neighbors each evening. Of course, this lovely bake is called a scon. Please leave the "e" off of this as you lovingly describe...

Who here saves pancakes for a weekend brunch treat? Submerged in syrup, a fresh fruit compote, or even thick creamy peanut butter?

Well save no more. These pancakes by The Big Man's World are a gluten free, low carb, game changer!

If you've been following our blog or instagram, you will know that we are up to our bonnets in zucchini! It's like the scene in Jumanji where the jungle takes over the old house and everyone is runnin...

My darling husband keeps bringing cauliflower home whenever he goes grocery shopping. The reason, of course, is that he loves the cauliflower steak sandwiches. Since this is such an easy and versatile dinner to make, I'm really not complaining. We've played with all sorts of marinades and toppings, enjoying each new version as much, if not more than the others. In a pinch, we've just brushed some homemade honey mustard dressin...

I have always thought of ravioli as those bags of frozen premade squares that you plop in boiling water for a few minutes then they are ready.  Never have I ever made ravioli from scratch but this ended up being surprisingly easy. If you have a pasta machine, lucky you. If you don’t, don’t worry, you can still make this but you will have to work a bit harder for it.

Dough:

1 ½ cups flour + extra for kneading

¼ cup aquafaba, chill...

Let's be honest, if someone gave me a pile of fresh spaghetti or a plate of zucchini, you know what your girl would choose. But it is summer, and with summer comes less clothing and more swimwear. So what's a carb loving girl to do? The most basic, hipster, pumpkin spice latte action you've seen on instagram....make your vegetables LOOK LIKE PASTA! And no, this doesn't come with a side of binge eating a bag of lime tortilla ch...

Who here thinks (or thought) they could never go vegan because they are a slave to the addictive salty, pungent, versatile siren of the dairy industry....cheese?

I've been there. I've lived the cheese life. But since giving it up, my skin is much clearer, my stomach rarely hurts, my energy is WAY up, and I've broken a pretty powerful artery clogging addiction. See the below youtube video for an informative talk by Dr. Neal Bar...

Sour cream is one of those essentials that makes switching to a plant based diet seem daunting...but FEAR NOT! Where there is a dairy product, there is a non-dairy alternative! Trust me, I'm lactose intolerant.

This ridiculously easy recipe calls for 5 ingredients, and one of them is water. Chances are, you probably have the rest of them too! So whether you need a topping for your burrito bowl, or baked potato, or chili, we've...

Here at Standard American Vegan, you aren't going to see too many dessert recipes. The truth is simple: none of us have good chocolate self control, and it's better for us to just not have sweets around. That being said, the holidays are the perfect time to concoct a sweet treat, throw caution to the wind, and enter willingly into the dreaded sugar coma.

These cupcakes were our Christmas Eve treat. They were honestly the best...
